generalised Anxiety Disorder Treatment

HOW ARE YOU, REALLY?

GENERALIsED ANXIETY DISORDER SYMPTOMS

Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) is characterized by excessive anxiety and worries about the future that are centered on several or more aspects of life or particular events (e.g. an individual could experience anxiety in relation to their job and their living expenses.)
The anxiety is present for the majority of days over a period of at least six months, with affected individuals finding it difficult to control their worries.
Individuals suffering from generalized anxiety disorder will experience three or more symptoms* from this list:
  • Restlessness, nervy, or on edge
  • Becoming easily fatigued
  • Concentration lapses or the mind going blank
  • Irritability
  • Excess muscle tension
  • Insomnia
* Only one item from the list is required for a diagnosis in children.
The emotional toll and physical symptoms resulting from generalized anxiety disorder cause significant distress to the individual, and/or impairments in daily functioning. For example, a person may worry to the extent that they have trouble sleeping at night. The resulting sleep deprivation may cause them to lose concentration when driving or perform badly at work.
